Why get an AirScore?
At AirRated we have created a global benchmark for Indoor Air Quality; the AirScore. Created by a team of environmental scientists and air quality experts, an AirScore is a simple and reliable measure for Indoor Air Quality in the built environment
There are a number of reasons why our clients choose to do an AirScore, whether that’s attracting occupiers and residents, enhancing marketing campaigns or responding to changing expectations for indoor spaces for their own teams. Across the board, an AirScore shows consideration for the wellbeing of all building users.
Our certifications also align with common building certifications and healthy building schemes such as The WELL Standard, BREEAM and Fitwel.
Updates to 2024 GRESB Real Estate Assessments
As of the 2024 GRESB Real Estate Assessments, there are new time constraints associated with recognised green building certifications that are used to contribute points, specifically within the BC1.1, BC1.2 and DBC1.2 indicators.
The changes are as follows*:
| Indicator code | Description of change | Impact | Scoring Impact |
| Building Certifications (BC1.1, BC1.2, DBC1.2) | Amendment of guidance for indicators BC1.1, BC1.2, and DBC1.2 to refer to the actual performance or assessment period (reporting period covered by the certification process) as the period determining the validity of a reported scheme. | Participants are now able to report in indicators BC1.1 and BC1.2 and DBC1.2 building certifications that were awarded by the certifier after the end of the reporting year if: 1) It relates to a performance period prior or equal to the GRESB reporting year; 2) The participant’s submission for certification occurred before the end of the GRESB reporting year; 3) The actual certificate was received by the participant before the end of the GRESB submission deadline (July 1). | None |
| Building Certifications (BC1.1, BC1.2) | The metrics subject to scoring for BC1.1 and BC1.2 are now multiplied by a ‘time factor,’ reflective of the evolving relevance of the reported scheme over time. Building Certifications are also now classified across three main types: Design/Construction (BC1.1), Interior (BC1.1), and Operational (BC1.2) certifications. | Participants are now required to report their corresponding Building Certifications Year in indicators BC1.1 and BC1.2 which will subsequently be used in the GRESB scoring model. Addition of a new building certification type: Interior (BC1.1). | Yes |

FAQs
Yes, both AirScore and AirScore D&O are recognised green building certifications for the GRESB Real Estate Assessment and can be used towards your reporting to earn GRESB points.
If your building is still in the planning and design stages then AirScore D&O is suitable. If your building has reached practical completion, we recommend undertaking an AirScore certification. If you are unsure on what’s best, our team is on hand to guide you to the most appropriate certification for your requirements.

Not a lot! Ahead of each certification, we will send you an RFI document to provide us with the initial information we need to undertake our studies. If you are conducting an AirScore we will need to visit the site for a survey and also to install and decommission sensors where appropriate. Usually it requires very little time commitment from you to undertake certification.
Each certification usually takes up to 10 weeks, as long as the right information is provided at the required times.
AirScore D&O certifications are valid up until 3 months post-practical completion. Once your building is up and running, you can validate the performance of the space using an AirScore. The AirScore is valid for 12 months at a time and requires annual testing to maintain certification.
